In a series of actions at once tender and destructive, for Sidore (Mark II) / Heather > LOLITA (2013) Hawk Swanson dismantled two donated dolls and combined their bodies into a replica of Lolita, the oldest orca in captivity, named after the protagonist of Nabokov’s novel. Lolita was originally captured in the waters of Penn Cove—near Puget Sound—in Washington State in August 1970 at four years of age. In 2017 Hawk Swanson visited the site of her capture to photograph the waters where her pod still resides.
